You have two options for hiring us.
We're going to help you choose the one that is best for you.
Option 1
Option 1 is the “traditional” retainer and hourly fee model of representation.
The "traditional" model is the one that you are likely familiar with if you have ever hired a lawyer for a court case.
If you hire us under Option 1, we will handle all matters related to the case for you, including :
- court appearances
- communications with the other party's attorney, and
- drafting necessary documents, et cetera.
Under Option 1, you would pay me by the hour for the time that I spend on your case.
My hourly rate is $395. Consequently, the total cost to you will be $395 multiplied by the number of hours that I spend on your case (plus some out-of-pocket expenses like filing fees.)
To hire me under Option 1, you would sign my Hourly Fee Agreement and pay me a retainer.
Think of a retainer as a down payment for the work that I am going to do. I usually request a retainer for the first thirty (30) hours of my time (so, $11,850.)
This initial retainer is not an estimate of, or flat fee for, the entire case -- it's a down payment.
After you hire me under Option 1 and pay the retainer, you will receive an invoice monthly detailing what I have done, how much time it took and how the retainer is applied to your outstanding balance.
If the retainer is exhausted during the case, I will ask you for an additional retainer. If there is any unused portion of the retainer at the conclusion of my representation, then I will return that portion to you.
Option 2
Option 2 is to join my Pay-As-You-Go Membership.
Under Option 2, you do NOT pay me a retainer. Instead, you hire me on an "unbundled" pay-as-you-go basis.
What this means is that you pay a flat monthly fee of $725 per month for six (6) months.
In exchange, my office prepares the core documents that you'll need to resolve for the first six (6) months of the case.
In addition to document preparation, the following services are also included in the flat monthly fee:
- unlimited email access to me and any associate attorney working on your case; and
unlimited email access to a platform that I have custom-created that will show you how to gather the necessary financial information and documents that we will need in your case.
You also have the option to purchase additional services only if you need them, such as court appearances and appearances at meetings with the other party or their attorney.
Those additional services are also priced with a flat fee, and we disclose those flat fees in advance so you’ll know the total cost before you decide to purchase the additional service.
For all of the other advice and guidance that you will need to handle the other steps on your own, I will charge you a flat monthly fee of $495.
For that flat monthly fee, you get:
- 24/7 access to the platform of instructional content (including videos and templates) that I've personally created that shows you what to do first, next and after that in your divorce or custody case. And. .
- You get ME personally monitoring your progress from the back end to make sure you're doing the right thing at the right time. And. . .
- You get UNLIMITED email access to me (and I personally respond to your emails.) And. . .
- You get access to weekly live workshops and office hours via Zoom. And. . .
- You get a monthly twenty-minute private video conference with me.
Under Option 2, you are definitely doing more of the legwork yourself, AND. . .
you have tighter control over how much money you spend on attorneys’ fees.
I think tighter control is a good thing, so I always urge clients to use Option 2 (especially because -- under Option 2 --you can still hire me to complete additional tasks for you.)
So let's choose the Option that's right for you.
